What is Needle Craft?

What is Needle Craft?

A good question I would say. Needle craft covers a variety of crafts that require a needle to stitch something together. This generally includes sewing, crochet, knitting, embroidery and latch hook, For the purpose of this blog it will also include tat despite not needing anything but thread create some beautiful pieces.

Sewing uses a sewing needle and thread to attach two fabrics together.

Crochet uses a crochet hook or needle to loop yarn together to form stitches. When you crochet, you create one stitch at a time.

Knitting is much the same as crochet except you have two straight or curved needles that hold multiple stitches. To complete a stitch you have to transfer the loops from one needle to the next

Embroidery has a similar set up to sewing. The needles used have slightly larger eyelets to allow for more than one strand through. Embroidery is mostly used for decorative purposes.

Latch hook uses a special hook that closely resembles a crochet needle but instead of being open ended has a hinged latch that closes. You can mostly make pillows or carpet using this method.

Tat is a free hand method of making lace and other decorative items. Tat can be done using solely your fingers to wind thread together but a lot of people find it easier to use special bobbins to hold the thread. This is the method I learned.

The first needle I ever picked up was a sewing needle and that started me off to all the other needle skills I picked up over the years. I'm hoping this blog starts you off with some hobbies that bring you joy for a lifetime.
